Dot Young is a Scottish sculptor based in London. Her work focusses as much on process and the archive of sculptural fabrication as it does on the final object.
She says, "I believe an awareness of the processes involved in the production of an object is as important as the experience of the final outcome, and as such, an archive of technical drawings, sketches, samples and moulds are often presented alongside the work, so as to offer the viewer a more holistic understanding and engagement with it".
Her studio practice often explores historical narratives, most recently focussing on the work of Urbain Dubois (1818-1901), French chef to Kaiser William of Prussia, who's energy and passion for architectural form, was referenced flamboyantly in his work.
As a contemporary sculptor she works with new technologies as well as traditional materials and techniques, that are the foundation of her practice.
